The mission of the FIRST New Zealand Education Trust (FIRST NZ) is to engage young people throughout New Zealand to become the innovators of tomorrow through building science, technology and engineering competencies that will nurture their life skills including collaboration, self worth and communication.

FIRST New Zealand Education Trust (FIRST NZ) supports The New Zealand Curriculum / Te Matauranga o Aotearoa with the integration of the new Digital Technologies & Hangarau Matihiko curriculum.


FIRST® Robotics was established in 1989 in the USA and is an internationally acclaimed robotics program that inspires a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in young people.

Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

FIRST® was founded by Dean Kamen who is an inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for science and technology. His passion and determination to help young people discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology are the cornerstones of FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

Worldwide there are 32,600 teams made up of 350,000+ students from nearly 80 countries. 64,000+ Mentors and 66,000+ event Volunteers and Affiliate Partners donate their time to make FIRST® possible.
